Having to deal with both a divorce and a chronic illness can be a hard task. However, there are some ways you can manage a chronic illness post-divorce. Doing so can help get you into a better, more manageable situation…
Chronic Illness: Post-Divorce Struggle
Visit your doctor
The first part of dealing with a chronic illness post-divorce is by visiting your doctor. The trauma of divorce can make it harder to deal with your illness both physically and mentally. Furthermore, it could even make some of the symptoms worse than they were before.
Your doctor can figure out how your divorce is impacting your illness, and deliver some trauma-informed care. That means the treatment they give you also considers the trauma you’re experiencing. By doing this, they’ll be able to help you both with your illness management, and your divorce recovery.
Consider working remotely
Something else to consider when you have a chronic illness post-divorce is your workload. Adding the stress of work on top of your divorce– and illness-related stress can be too much for you to handle at this point. Rather, you might need to relax the workload that you’re used to.
One helpful way this can be done is by working remotely from home. Many tech-based or office jobs are becoming more open to working from hope, especially if you have an illness which makes commuting and on-site working hard. You can also see if your boss will let you take on less work for the time being.
Keep the home healthy
Having a chronic illness post-divorce probably means you’re going to spend a lot of time resting and recovering. Therefore, it helps to make sure your home environment supports this. If your home has a healthy environment, then you’ll also begin to feel better while you’re there, rather than feeling worse and worse.
For instance, one good improvement to make is the air quality. Many people don’t change their air filters like they should, which allows a lot of dust to build up in the air. Swapping your filters regularly will make the air you breathe cleaner, and make you feel much better.
